Coach DeLa Torre is entering his second season as the Head Coach of the Irving Tigers, and 8th year as a High School and College Coach. Last year the Tigers were 3-7 on his inaugural campaign, but in the seven loses three were by eight points or less. The Tigers continued to make improvements during the season and went 3-4 during District 6-5A play. The Tigers had an opportunity to make the playoffs for the first time since 2008, while losing in overtime to Irving MacArthur.
Aaron De La Torre is a 1993 graduate from Irving High School where he lettered in Wrestling and Football.
Upon graduation he attended and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science. He was a four year starter for the Lumberjacks as a defensive tackle. He was a member of two NCAA Division 1-AA playoff-teams, including the 1995 team that advanced to the 1-AA Semi-Finals.
He also had a career in the NFL and NFL Europe. Playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys, he also played one season with the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe.
He began his coaching career in 2006 at his alma mater as an assistant defensive line coach. Through 2007 – 2008 seasons he was the Running Backs coach. While at SFA he coached multiple Southland Conference Players and NFL players.
Prior to coming to Irving High School coach spent three seasons with the Denton Ryan Raiders. While there the Raiders compiled a 39-4 record with three play-off appearances, and also a 2010 State Championship Game birth losing to eventual State Champion Lake Travis.
He and his wife Lori, his high school sweet heart and Nimitz Graduate have three children Alex -20 (Who is playing football at U of Texas), Adyson (13), and Kolt (9.)
